ECO CHAMPION AWARD
The Southport Eco Centre holds a prestigious annual celebration event to award the bright ideas and dedication of our local young environmentalists.
Since 2008 we have recognised hundreds of pupils who go the extra mile for the environment in a range of ways. Their stories are inspirational. Some have been in charge of their school’s organic vegetable patch or wildlife pond. Others have led the fight against energy waste or encouraged others to recycle. Some have raised awareness of Fair Trade or raised money for good causes. Some have done it all and together they have had a massive impact on sustainability and well-being within their communities and beyond.
We also accept applications from teams as many schools have active Eco Committees where it is difficult to single out one candidate.
As well as acclaiming crucial environmental work, since 2014 the ceremony has also honoured an annual People’s Ambassador. This award was founded in the name of our dear friend and colleague, Jeff Argent, who was tragically killed in October 2013. Jeff was such a friendly, helpful, kind and positive person, an inspiration to everyone who knew him. We aim to recognise young people who are in the mould of Jeff as they, too, are working to make the world a better place.
The awards also support Sefton's Green League programme. More information can be found here.
