At the end of 2007, all schools in Sefton were invited to nominate pupils who demonstrated an ongoing commitment to their local environment and an understanding of how their work supports local and global concerns in the world.

To coincide with World Environment Day, the finalists were invited to the Eco Centre for the awards ceremony.

The 2008 winner was announced as Jack Taylor from Kew Woods Primary School in Southport. The runners up were Connor Arnold from Summerhill Primary; Steven Mitchell from Marshside Primary School; Anneli Reed from Green Park Primary School; and Harvey Skinner from Marshside Primary School.

Jack will receive support in writing a 'diary' of eco tips, which will be included on the Sefton Council website. Jack will also play an important role in the promotion of sustainability throughout Sefton and has already come up with some excellent suggestions as to how we achieve this.

All our finalists will play an active role in helping to judge the entries for next year's competition and Jack will present the award to his successor in 2009.

Sponsors of the Eco Champion competition are Arriva, Vue Cinema and Morrisons.

All Sefton schools will be informed of the opening of applications for Eco Champion 2009 towards the end of the year. For further information please contact the resident teacher.
